Adrian Head (Le Grande Fromage)

Adrian is a conductor, based in Brisbane, Australia.

Over the last three decades Adrian has conducted numerous orchestras & ensembles, nationally & overseas, including the Janacek Philharmonic, the Dohnanyi Symphony, the Sinfonia of St Andrew’s, the Ipswich City Symphony, & the Ady Ensemble – which he founded in 2011, that performs standard repertoire & with newly written commissions & arrangements for the ensemble. In 2016 he studied conducting with Gabor Hollerung in Budapest, Hungary, & in 2017 he travelled to the Czech Republic to study with renowned Finnish conducting pedagogue, Jorma Panula. 2017 also saw Adrian voted a 4MBS Treasured Queensland Classical Musician.

In early 2020, Adrian planned & conducted two concerts with the Ipswich City Symphony Orchestra, to raise funds for those affected by the bushfires, along with the Rural Fire Service. 2021 & 2022 saw Adrian involved with “Spirit Orphan”, a new opera in development based upon the 2019/20 bushfires, conducting both performances and recording sessions of the opera. In 2021 the Ady Ensemble & Adrian’s recording of Corrina Bonshek’s, “Dreams of the Earth”, was released on the U.S. based Navona Records label. As a result of the release, the work would be awarded the Best Contemporary Classical work at the 2022 Queensland Music Awards. 2022 would also saw Adrian & the Ady launch their recording of Brahms’ 2nd Symphony.
